Name: Brandon Lovas
Trade: Electrician
Year: 5th Year
Hobbies off the jobsite: Working on cars and trucks, hunting, fishing, boating, spending time with family and friends around the fire.
What I like about my apprenticeship: I've made a lot of new friends and connections. Also, I like the fact that I'm getting a useful education, without obtaining college debt.
A tip or trick you've learned on the job: A magnetic tape measure will be your best friend, and worst enemy.
Go-to tool in my tool bag: Lineman's pliers and my 11-in-1 screwdriver.
Something I like about being a member of the GRID Apprentice Connection: The group allows apprentices from all trades and across the country to communicate with one another. Whether it's asking each other questions or just showing off your quality work, this has been a very positive and supportive group of people.
What resources do you utilize outside of the classroom to learn more about your trade?: A lot of YouTube videos, and even talking to other tradespeople about what they know. [My foreman] has been willing to talk after hours to explain and show me certain things. His skillset, attention to detail and craftsmanship is amazing. This made me look at electrical work in a completely different way, and I will use the things I learned from him to make myself a better electrician.
